LYSERGIC SUSHI- to be released on cd

The Psychedelic Manifesto album Lysergic Sushi is finally to be released on CD on 20/11/09.
This album has been stunningly remixed & re-mastered  and contain two new  tracks, special new versions of ‘Forever; brilliantly  re-mixed by Trommelkopf in LA.
This album has previously only been available in online formats but has since it’s appearance in 2008   achieved almost mythical status and become a cult classic  amongst serious electronica trainspotters globaly.  Indeed it occupied the #1 spot on itunes France which for a debut release from a small although highly respected label is pretty hot stuff for beginners luck!
The enormous number of illegal acquisitions of this album attest to its huge popularity and although not benefiting the artists or label financially,  is certainly an ironic compliment to the albums status.

In terms of genre The Psychedelic Manifesto can be placed in the more arty conceptual area of electronica, however in every other sense they occupy a space completely of their own creation as both they and this remarkable album are not really comparable with anything else around.

Like the legendary Kraftwerk with who’m one member of the TPM duo has a past connection, they have an instantly recognisable sound and indeed ’style; of their own and pursue very much  their own  course free of generic clichés or box’s.

This is an album of soaring uplifting soundscapes and sublime sonic frequencies where beautiful melancholy tinged  hooks and vocals lift, transport and carry you  away on a glorious  hallucinogenic journey,  This album though is extremely accessable incredibly danceable and  almost addictively listenable, great songs  invade your consciousness and leave you wanting more and louder!  Indeed, when a DJ  spun some of these tracks at a recent festival the audience reaction was so euphoric they almost needed spraying with water.

The production and mastering is excellent and a very high level of  engineering and technical virtuosity is obvious from the very first moment. Conceptually Lysergic Sushi flies very high indeed and it is hardly surprising that with this album The Psychedelic  Manifesto have establishes an almost mythical status.
Naturally this has been enhanced by the fact that the two rather eccentric people who are TPM tend towards a rather low key approach to their own promotion. This one suspects is due to both of them having a fairly long background in the music industry.

So who are the ‘odd couple’ who have created this ‘effortless buzz’?
Chris Garland is the songwriter ,singer, co-composer./co-producer, along with his partner electronic, technical wiz- kid Rene Steuns.
Both Garland & Steuns were formerly based in Germany before relocating to London and have long associations with the German music scene.

The list of Garland’s former musical output is considerable but he allows creating the legendary and hugely influential Starship Africa Album together with his then partner  producer Adrian Sherwood back in the early 80’s as a significant moment, as well as being the guiding architect of (now) cult punk funk 80’s band Medium Medium (of hungry so angry fame), Working with Jamaican legend Prince Far I and many other legendary Jamaican ’Roots’ artists,  Fronting and creating the notorious 80’s ’Electro Pop/Art ’Terrorist’ band UBahnX for EMI UK, Creating  the equally notorious German ‘Cyber Punk’ legends The Trash Groove  Girls with the conspiratorial assistance of Marc Chung formerly of Einsturzend Neaubauten.  Producing M.E.L.T’s inspired ‘Electro-Trance/Rock cover of Kraftwerk’s Radiointernational, now considered one of the great innovative cult classic trance tracks. Creating/Producing Germany’s  Diskowalkuren who’s stunning anthem ‘Walkuren’ is still one of the #1 tracks on all Electro/Goth/EBM play lists more than 12 years after its release and working with Americas #1 lunatic outlaw industrial metalists Ministry.
There have been many more and Garland considers himself to have been blessed by good fortune to have been living together with his ex German partner  Ilona (front frau of UBahnX, Diskowalkuren & M.E.L.T, and who's stunning vocal  sample can be heard on TPMs  beautiful ‘Forever’) in Dusseldorf during the 80’s when it was the centre of the musical universe as far as electronic music was concerned,.
Wth Krafttwerk, DAF. Neu, La Dusseldorf, Rheingold, Tommy Stumph, Der Plan, Propaganda ,Die Krupps , M.E.L.T , The Trash Groove Girls  and even Die Toten Hosen, all living in the same city! Garland also worked for a long time in New York  working with such luminaries as ‘Duke Boots’ (Edd Fletcher) who wrote The Message for Grandmaster Flash in Unique Studios in Manhatten at the hight of New Yorks Underground black/Hispanic radio hey day, when mixer/producers like Shep Pettibone were reinventing what music  was about.

Garland considers Rene Steuns his partner in The Psychedelic Manifesto and co-creator of Lysergic Sushi to be one of the most truly gifted and inspired producers, engineers and musicians he has ever worked with. An inspired master of  sonic frequencies and arrangements  Steuns brings to the partnership an enormous amount of production and musical experience as well as having a performing background with many excellent German bands’ Also based now in London Steuns has been involved in the development of a number of current 'hot young things'!!

A perfect partnership blessed  by good karma and blissfully  free of argument (once over  cookies?) Steuns and Garland are now working on the follow up to Lysergic Sushi and will also be considering some more live performances in the future, as well as a fairly major event in Japan next year.
Equally blessed by a record label ( The excellent -Alex Tronic run  by the equally inspired and eccentric  Paul Croan) where they feel entirely comfortable and at home, The Psychedelic Manifesto seem likely to continue their  hallucinogenic sonic  journey down the expressway to the collective mind and delivering more much needed uplifting sonic karma!

The Psychedelic Manifesto are:

‘The Zengangster’ aka Chris Garland............Vocalist/Lyricist/Composer/Producer
‘Rene’ aka Rene Steuns................................Composer/Producer
Chris Garland has a very long background & history in music, ’popculture’, the audio/visual arts & fashion. Amongst his
selected ‘personal favourite moments’ are:
Commencing in the early 80’s (with his then partner legendary producer Adrian Sherwood): Creating/Producing the ground
breaking & hugely infl uential album ‘Starship Africa’. Now a cult classic, this took Dub Reggae into outer space and transformed
the genre.
Working with the late ‘Prince Far I’ & other legendary ‘roots’ Jamaican artists.
Medium Medium: As the guiding light behind this brilliant ground breaking, British New Wave ‘Punk Funk’ band, Chris lead
them to considerable success in the 80’s particularly in the USA. MM are now considered one of the great iconic innovators
of their time and have infl uenced a huge amount of current bands.
UBahnX: Signed to EMI UK during the mid 80’s and fronted by Chris and his then German wife Ilona, this Anglo/German
‘pop-art’ cult band has iconic status for its cool 80’s synthi-pop and its image & style.
The Trash Groove Girls: As the architect & producer of this three girl German ‘Cyber-Punk’ band, Chris fused German
electro and minimal guitars to create a band which now has real cult iconic status and during the 80’s had massive press and
exposure for their confrontational style in both Germany & the USA.
M.E.L.T.: Produced in the late 80’sby Chris, their version of Kraftwerks ‘Radioactivity’ is a cult classic and was a huge infl uence
on the German band Ramstein.
The Diskowalkuren: Produced by Chris & Sash! producer Ralf Kapmeier. The track ‘Walkuren’ from this four girl German
band, is now, almost ten years after its fi rst release, a massive cult classic in the Goth/EBM scene worldwide.
Guiding and producing the album ‘Duft‘ for the brilliant German singer, writer/musician/artist/designer Brit Leissler and from
which emerged the cult club hit “wir marchieren“.
Six months in El Paso Texas in 2005: Creating & directing the live tour video concept visuals for the American industrial metal
band Ministry.

The music of The Psychedelic Manifesto is a journey through space and time, Celebrating the transformative
harmonic power of sonic frequencies. From the soaring, uplifting, beautiful ‘Zen-Pop’ of ‘Forever’, to the mind
expanding ‘Timeslip’. The music of TPM will take you to another place!

Producing the album ‘True West’ for the Texas based band ‘Poets of Now’.
Along with the above Chris has under numerous names and guises, produced, directed & created a huge amount of musical
work and is the ‘shadowy fi gure’ and architect behind numerous pop-hits of the 80’s & 90’s and a large amount of dance/club/
techno of the 90’s.
Chris has also worked successfully in fi lm, advertising and fashion: video production and concepts/creative direction for major
brands, brand consultancy and developing strong market bases for UK based fashion labels in continental Europe.
Chris lived out of the UK for almost twenty years but is now once again based in London. He is currently working on the development
of The Psychedelic Manifesto concept, writing a book and providing ‘creative direction’ for a number of companies.
The Psychedelic Manifesto will be providing both music & performance for a new series of ‘Audio-Sculpture’ installations
entitled ‘Elephant Cloud Speaking’ to be launched in Seoul-Korea, then presented in galleries around the world next year by
Korean artist Paik, Kyung OK.
Rene Steuns is a brilliantly gifted Dutch producer/arranger/musician/composer and sound engineer. Originaly based for many
years in Germany, where the ‘Zengangster & Rene’ creative partnership began, he is also now based in London where he has
his own studio. Rene is currently producing a number of artists from the UK, Germany & Brazil and is also involved with the
German techno band Weltklang.
When The Zengangster & Rene fi rst developed the Psychedelic Manifesto concept, they simply wanted to avoid the clichés
of so much current music/pop and simply celebrate the music they loved but in a new innovative & interesting way. Using the
vocals more as ‘instruments’ was one of the key ideas and and more ‘pop-scientifi c’ approach to what could be achieved by
manipulating sonic frequencies.

Initially I suppose, we set out to create a sort of ‘trancy-electronic art-pop’ with good songs but done in a
more interesting way’. We have to be honest been fl attered & amazed by the reaction to our music because
not only the arty club people but also the kind of mainsteam pop people seem to love it and out live shows
have been really successful.
Live the Psychedelic Manifesto should not be missed as they deliver on all the expectations promised by their
recorded music by being even more powerful exciting and uplifting. The visuals are brilliant, as is the performance
and all created by just two persons onstage, the ‘Zengangster’ on vocals and his partner Rene on
